Day I: MD and DC

Baltimore, MD.

So we left at.. 12:30 pm. We were supposed to start our road trip bright and early Sunday morning, then it was Monday, and then it was Tuesday morning bright and early.. and now it's 12:30. It's okay, though, because we've left.

Bea drove the first leg of the way to Baltimore, MD. It only took about two hours, and we were definitely the slowest vehicle on the road the entire way there. (Keeping our rpm at below 2.5 x 1,000 at all times.) Mango was kind of crazy and excited for the first ten minutes in the car, but after a while he calmed down.

Mango knows his name! I think Rob and I have been yelling it so often while in Philly that he responds when we only say his name. He also hasn't peed in the car so far, which is fan-freakin'-tastic. I've also been working on "sit down" and "go git yer ball!" and "comeer" with him- three very important commands to know, in my book.

So Baltimore isn't that interesting. I mean, maybe it is, but we didn't really spy anything too FUN and EXCITING while we were biking around. (Mango chilled in my messenger bag.) We said he was a service dog in Barnes & Noble, and he met a nice English Bulldog to sniff. We wandered around the touristy area around the gorgeous Aquarium for a little bit. It was too expensive to visit, but we definitely chased all the pigeons away from the perimeter in the meantime.

Mango pooped on the walkway, and so I walked into the nearest restaurant and asked the lady for a plastic baggie. She returns with a small Styrofoam to-go box. Really? I think I gave her strange "are you serious" look, and said "I need a baaaggg. To pick up my dog's pooooop." So she comes back with a bag, and I'm satisfied.

We rode around for a bit and this guy on a funky looking mountain bike with rubber spikes on the handlebars and fork that was way too small for him started talking to me while we were at a stoplight. He told me he rode fixed too, and asked if I was doing anything tomorrow night. I said "I'll be in D.C." and bounced.

Bea and I then went to visit the tattoo parlor where Jeffery Pitt worked (he did my peace symbol in Philadelphia during the expo), but he wasn't there. We hung out with the guys that worked there, but they wouldn't stop talking about dogs so we left and went back to the car.

Washington, DC.

This time I drove. It only took about 45 minutes, and we pretty much laughed the entire way there. We're staying with Welsch and his roommates and two cats (which I think are staying upstairs for the night). Mango is fantastic, as always, and responding positively to my "sit down" and "go git yer ball" commands. Right now I'm sitting barefoot on the floor looking at him and Bea snoozing on the couch.

Mango isn't eating his dinner because he's too tired from playing fetch with the mini ball. Gosh.

The fan above is shaking and clicking, and we should probably go get the bikes off of the back rack and into a safe garage.

OUT,
-S

ps. Now they're lighting fireworks in the back.
pps. Two new bug bites.
